Long and Winding Road

The glorious drive to Terrace encompasses so many of the reasons we live here. In the pastel painted morning sky, the peaks of the Seven Sisters extended well beyond the tree line to afford a stunning view of majesty. The river was deeply encrusted in deep ice, heaving and buckling in places, showing its many layers and the odd peek at the deep green underneath. Ice forming on the cliffs beside us as we sped by was an array of colours- when we thought of ice as white. Our little car was filled with warmth and music as we talked and laughed and surrendered to the glorious sites around us, commenting from time to time as to God's handiwork all around. The 12 year old and I had a nice day together, him missing school and me enjoying time for the two of us.
We stopped in to see friends who are looking forward to the wedding of their daughter this summer. The marriage of two who love each other so so much- and are excited to spend the rest of their life together!
In December, we celebrated 27 years married. We drove this same long, winding road- and landed up in Prince Rupert. My beloved had no idea that we were going and had thought we would go to dinner and a movie in Smithers, but I had different plans. On our anniversary last year, we were on our way out to Rupert when we found out I had cancer. This year, I wanted to celebrate the year we went through and all of God's goodness shown. We were hosted by our youngest daughter, given royal treatment in her home while she house sat somewhere else.
Saturday dawned bright, clear and cold. We wandered around Cow bay, enjoying the sights and window shopping.
I love that this is the shopping centre of town- and there are people with dogs in boats, traveling right beside the sidewalk!
We have to stop at Cowpuccinos for soup and coffee- no trip to Rupert is complete without it.
In the evening, after a day of wandering and pampering, we headed out for an amazing meal prepared by our favourite chef- and tell me when you have gone out for fine food and been given THIS kind of treatment?!
We just want to celebrate 27 years and know that we could look forward to many, many more!
So, today, thinking about weddings has led me to be thinking about the whole journey. A wedding day is simply the start, the journey is the marriage. We know the road of this journey has been long and winding. It has had hills, detours, lots of curves and hazards. But in the end, keeping on the road itself has given us tremendous joy and friends for a lifetime. Learning how to read the road, to speak in the language of the road itself, to determine the route and figure out if you are holding the map upside down has been so rewarding. We could never have done it alone and I am glad that we have help with reading this map.
The journey continues.
