Wind and Fire Sunday
Wind of the Spirit, set sail to my soul, lead me on Lord, let the wind blow--hmmm, today, the words, the message and the music leave me pondering. The day started out so beautifully, with good music, good fellowship, Scriptures to entice and bless and, perhaps, to make me ponder as well.
Taking the kayaks out to the lake today, great idea! We had our church picnic and young and old enjoyed the sunshine, enjoyed the water, the fellowship, the boating and simply enjoying life. Others brought kayaks, a sailboat and there were canoes out on the lake as well. I was thinking today, as I paddled out on the lake, what a tremendously lovely setting the lake is in. It is like a fine jewel in perhaps a brooch, set about with rock, mountains and hills on every side. The lake is sometimes cerulean blue, other times a jade green, giving the brooch ever interesting value. Today, as those red wing blackbirds flitted across the water, black giving way to the red and cream, the lake was a mysterious blue, deep and clear. The sky above, mirrored in the surface, had bold clouds traveling quickly. We all appreciated the speed of the clouds--the breezes kept the bugs at bay!! The surrounding mountains, still capped in traces of white, set off the lovely jewelry. We had kids in sailboats, folks swimming (not me!!) and a fire to warm us, to cook our meats and to help with the bugs.
Coming home this evening, the breezes have strengthened and it is a bit colder. We all have some sun kissed noses and are ready now for the week ahead. We have relaxed, recharged and refreshed. There are some obstacles in our week, but we have power within to encourage us in doing well. Challenges that we meet can either slay us or make us pay more attention--and we will go forth, hoping to be strengthened by time spent together, fellowship and prayer.
Today is the day Pentecost is celebrated, 40 days after Easter. We are reminded of the time when the Holy Spirit was poured out, given to the people. It appeared like tongues of fire, a wind blowing it through the crowd. I want to know it's power, anew and refreshed in my own spirit. It is a time to be introspective, to see if I contain that power, that certainty to walk in the Spirit- will it set sail in my soul and lead me on? This week will give me an opportunity once again to trust my Maker, my Master. I will be faced with challenges that I may find insurmountable. But I know this. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is upon me--and I have nothing to fear, nothing to doubt. I can trust in Him, wholly and completely and for this, I am grateful.
